What does it take to go from food stamps to full-time? How do you stay positive when life challenges you daily? How do you turn the American dream into the American reality?
My name is Abdelwadood Daoud and I am a Sudanese-American Optimist. My parents are from Sudan and I was born in Alexandria Virginia. My family and I survived off of food stamps and government programs throughout my childhood. With that being said, there was always a consistent theme in my life. The expectation of a positive outcome.
That EXPECTATION of a positive outcome is what propelled me to pursue an engineering career. That EXPECTATION of a positive outcome is why you are here today. Because, through my stories, perspectives, and learnings, I have found a way, regardless of the circumstances to show people that where they start will not dictate where they end up.
How did I end up as the voice of this website? I'm glad you asked!
I've spent most of my life searching for unique and impactful experiences and opportunities that inspire individuals who weren't gifted with much. Why? Because that inspiration is 100% why I am here today. Every day I try to empower 1 person to see the value in the combination of Knowledge, Networking, and Confidence.
Fun Fact: I was once held in jail overnight as a terrorist suspect and networking was critical to clearing my name
Before my "today", I spent time inspiring black engineering students and HR executives at fortune 500 companies to embrace a new norm in recruiting. Human recruiting. Before that, I taught English to homeless men in New Delhi, India. And Before that, I was spending hours on college campuses speaking about how LinkedIn can take you from Food Stamps to Full Time
Today, I have the privilege of realizing the American Dream for my parents every day. I am a program manager at Microsoft leading engineering projects that can impact the experiences of millions. I deliver keynote speeches and coach college students and young professionals on how to accelerate their careers
That's me.
Let's get back to you.
You have people who depend on you.
You have the desire to see them succeed.
You have a world to change.
The question is; what is it going to take?
